Convert WAV to MP3 — Without Uploading Anything
WAV recordings can take a lot of space. Convert to MP3 when you need a smaller delivery copy for sharing or listening. Keep the WAV as your master if you plan to edit again. You can choose the output quality before converting.
Many converters ask you to send a recording to their server before they can do any work. Crikk reads your local file and runs the audio engine on your device. You skip the upload, and the sound stays with you. You can make another copy with different settings whenever you need one.
How to Convert WAV to MP3
- Step 1
Add your WAV files
Drop your files on the page or use Choose Files. You can add several recordings at once. A WAV page accepts other supported formats too; each row shows what was actually detected.
- Step 2
Check the output format
MP3 starts selected. Choose another format if your plans change, then open Advanced for bitrate, sample rate or channel settings. Leave the defaults to preserve source settings where possible.
- Step 3
Convert and download
Click Convert. Files finish one at a time so several encoders do not compete for memory. A single result downloads automatically. For a batch, download individual files or save the completed results together as a ZIP.
WAV vs MP3: What's the Difference?
| Feature | WAV | MP3 |
|---|---|---|
| Full name | Waveform Audio File Format | MPEG-1 Audio Layer III |
| Type | Lossless | Lossy |
| Sound quality | Perfect, uncompressed sound | Good to great, depending on bitrate |
| File size | Large — about 10 MB per minute | Small — about 1–2.5 MB per minute |
| Plays on | Plays on almost everything, but files are big | Plays on almost everything |
| Best for | audio editing, music production and DAWs, voiceover delivery | sharing music, phones and car stereos, podcasts |
Will Converting WAV to MP3 Affect Quality?
MP3 uses lossy compression to reduce storage. Some audio data is removed, and the result depends on the source and bitrate. A higher setting can be useful for music, while speech often needs less space. Listen to the download before using it as your final delivery file.
Will My File Get Bigger or Smaller?
At typical settings, MP3 is about 7 times smaller than WAV. Longer recordings benefit most from a smaller bitrate. Mono can also reduce the size of spoken material, but choose it only if you do not need separate left and right sound.
As a rough guide, a 5 MB WAV could become about 1 MB as MP3. Duration, channels, sample rate and bitrate all affect the result, so this is an estimate.
When to Use MP3
- sharing music. Share a small file that most people can open.
- phones and car stereos. Play your audio on devices with older software.
- podcasts. Keep spoken episodes easy to download.
- music libraries. Fit more tracks in your collection.
- sending by email or chat. Send a smaller attachment to a friend.
Before choosing MP3, check what the receiving app or player accepts. Plays on almost everything. Any media player — Windows Media Player, Apple Music, VLC, and every phone are common ways to open this format. Keep the original recording until you have played the result and confirmed that it fits your project.
Share a smaller copy of your recording
Keep the WAV as your master and make an MP3 for sharing. Use 256 or 320 kbps for music when size matters less. Speech can often use a lower bitrate. Listen to your result before replacing any file in a production project.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will I lose quality converting WAV to MP3?
Lossy encoding removes some data. Keep the WAV original and choose a suitable bitrate for the copy you want to share.
What quality should I choose?
Use a higher bitrate for music when storage allows. For speech, try a middle setting and listen to the result.
How much smaller is MP3?
Typical files are about 7 times smaller, but your duration, channels and bitrate determine the actual size.
Is this WAV to MP3 converter free?
Yes. It is free to use with no sign-up, watermark or daily conversion limit.
Do you upload my WAV file?
No. The file is read and processed by your browser on your device. The conversion tool does not send audio or file names to a server.
Does it work without internet?
The tool can cache the current page and its audio engine when service workers are available. Offline availability depends on your browser cache. Open the page online first; browser storage cleanup can remove cached files.
Can I convert several WAV files?
Yes. Add a batch and convert it one file at a time. Each result has a download button. Multiple finished files can also be saved together in a ZIP.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no server upload limit because your files stay local. Very large files still depend on device memory, and output files are held in your browser. A computer is a better choice for long recordings.
Does it work on phones?
A browser with the required audio features can run the tool. Codec support varies by device. Unavailable output formats are disabled, and an error row explains when the selected file cannot be decoded.
Can I choose something other than MP3?
Yes. The page starts with MP3, but the output dropdown stays editable. Changing it updates this session without navigating to another page.
