Convert MP3 to AAC — Without Uploading Anything
Need AAC instead of MP3? AAC is useful for streaming and phones and smart TVs. Choose the format that your player or app accepts. Crikk makes the new file on your device.
Many converters ask you to send a recording to their server before they can do any work. Crikk reads your local file and runs the audio engine on your device. You skip the upload, and the sound stays with you. You can make another copy with different settings whenever you need one.
How to Convert MP3 to AAC
- Step 1
Add your MP3 files
Drop your files on the page or use Choose Files. You can add several recordings at once. A MP3 page accepts other supported formats too; each row shows what was actually detected.
- Step 2
Check the output format
AAC starts selected. Choose another format if your plans change, then open Advanced for bitrate, sample rate or channel settings. Leave the defaults to preserve source settings where possible.
- Step 3
Convert and download
Click Convert. Files finish one at a time so several encoders do not compete for memory. A single result downloads automatically. For a batch, download individual files or save the completed results together as a ZIP.
MP3 vs AAC: What's the Difference?
| Feature | MP3 | AAC |
|---|---|---|
| Full name | MPEG-1 Audio Layer III | Advanced Audio Coding |
| Type | Lossy | Lossy |
| Sound quality | Good to great, depending on bitrate | Great — better than MP3 at the same size |
| File size | Small — about 1–2.5 MB per minute | Small — about 1–2 MB per minute |
| Plays on | Plays on almost everything | Good — some older players prefer M4A |
| Best for | sharing music, phones and car stereos, podcasts | streaming, phones and smart TVs, small high-quality files |
Will Converting MP3 to AAC Affect Quality?
Both MP3 and AAC use compressed audio. If the codec must change, the sound is encoded again, which can introduce further loss. A higher bitrate does not restore detail missing from the source. Use a suitable default and keep the original for future edits.
Will My File Get Bigger or Smaller?
AAC is typically about 1 times bigger than MP3. Bitrate and recording length matter more than the file extension alone. The finished row shows both sizes so you can compare your actual files.
As a rough guide, a 5 MB MP3 could become about 7 MB as AAC. Duration, channels, sample rate and bitrate all affect the result, so this is an estimate.
When to Use AAC
- streaming. Use a compact audio stream with compatible software.
- phones and smart TVs. Play AAC on a supported phone or television.
- small high-quality files. Keep audio small with an efficient codec.
Before choosing AAC, check what the receiving app or player accepts. Good — some older players prefer M4A. VLC, Apple Music, most phones and browsers are common ways to open this format. Keep the original recording until you have played the result and confirmed that it fits your project.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does MP3 to AAC reduce quality?
Changing codecs adds an encoding step. The amount of loss depends on the material and settings. Keep the original rather than repeatedly converting the same recording.
Which bitrate should I use?
Start with the smart default. Raise it when size matters less, or lower it for a smaller speech file. Always listen to the result.
Is this MP3 to AAC converter free?
Yes. It is free to use with no sign-up, watermark or daily conversion limit.
Do you upload my MP3 file?
No. The file is read and processed by your browser on your device. The conversion tool does not send audio or file names to a server.
Does it work without internet?
The tool can cache the current page and its audio engine when service workers are available. Offline availability depends on your browser cache. Open the page online first; browser storage cleanup can remove cached files.
Can I convert several MP3 files?
Yes. Add a batch and convert it one file at a time. Each result has a download button. Multiple finished files can also be saved together in a ZIP.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no server upload limit because your files stay local. Very large files still depend on device memory, and output files are held in your browser. A computer is a better choice for long recordings.
Does it work on phones?
A browser with the required audio features can run the tool. Codec support varies by device. Unavailable output formats are disabled, and an error row explains when the selected file cannot be decoded.
Can I choose something other than AAC?
Yes. The page starts with AAC, but the output dropdown stays editable. Changing it updates this session without navigating to another page.
